Sokkia & It’s History

Sokkia was founded in a place called Sokkisha near Tokyo in Japan in 1920. As a small startup, Sokkia functioned as a workshop that designed transits. Later, Sokkia expanded its business to cater for the whole of Japan. Very soon, Sokkia became a leading manufacturer of measuring instruments in Japan. Within a few years, Sokkia started its business in the U.S.A. with Leitz as its distributor. Later in 2008, a Tokyo based optical instruments company called Topcon acquired Sokkia 2008. The company was renamed Topcon Sokkia Positioning. Sokkia became an independent unit of Topcon. Sokkia operates in many countries in the name Topcon Sokkia Positioning. In India, it operates under the name Topcon Sokkia India Pvt. Ltd.
